Ben Horgan was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis in 1973 aged 2. The disease quickly consumed every joint in his body changing his and his families’ lives forever. Not expected to live past the age of 10, Ben’s story is one of determination and courage.
Ben is currently working for the Consumer and Community Health Research Network as a Consumer Advocate
Ben brings over 15 years of advocacy experience to the role. He has worked at Arthritis Australia as a consumer advocate and for the past six years has worked in primary health networks supporting patient driven multidisciplinary quality care. Ben has been a strong consumer representative and a patient research partner for almost two decades in local, national and international research initiatives.
His current role enables him to utilise all his experience and evidence based best practice models to improve collaboration between researchers and the community. The results will enable increased levels of involvement from health consumers and community, more relevant health research, plus increased rates of translation into health service delivery.
